TEACHERS LOVING BOOKS

Liz Taylor is the Head of St. Philip’s Catholic Primary and Nursery School:
“Ours is not an innovative or original idea but we spread the love of reading and of books to the children by loving them ourselves! How can you encourage someone to love something unless you are in love with it yourself? We don’t just SAY those things though, we do it by example! We read lots of children’s books ourselves so that we can talk to the children not just to check their understanding but to really engage with them! They just love it when they ask us, ‘have you read it Miss/Sir…’ and we can talk books! Thing is, this approach has re-awakened some of our teachers’ and other adults love of books too – a viscious circle that’s not so viscious but extremely rewarding!” |
